Coach for Healthcare Leaders
Maddi Howard is a professional coach with a strong belief in the potential of people to create the career and life they really want. Her particular focus is on clinical experts from all fields (medical, nursing, allied health and others) who are needing to expand their leadership skills. She is committed to helping every one of her clients explore what success means for them, and then works with them to achieve it. She values complete confidentiality and has an open minded and non-judgemental coaching style. Maddi has the confidence to challenge her clients to consider how their own behaviours and assumptions might limit their progress. She is a clear thinker who is able to consider the client’s specific situation and help them identify new possibilities. Her coaching is solution focused and goal oriented.
Maddi is a practising Emergency Physician (MBBS Melb, GradCertOrgCoach Swin, FACEM) who has been working as a specialist in this field for 10 years. Throughout this period she has demonstrated a keen interest in supporting her colleagues. As a mentor she has worked with others to help them to clarify their professional goals and develop a plan of action to reach them. As the coordinator of the mentor program for 70 Emergency Medicine trainees at Monash Health she has been responsible for delivering education and training to other mentors on the skills they need to excel in this capacity. She has also delivered training to senior doctors on communication skills and conflict resolution. She has played a number of roles at the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM). She has been a member of the Trainee Welfare subcommittee. She has also been a member of the Mentoring in Emergency Medicine reference group. This group has been responsible for creating a mentoring framework for the Emergency Medicine profession in Australia and New Zealand, and then developing a variety of strategies and educational approaches to implement it. She is also a Member of the Continuing Professional Development Committee at ACEM. The role of the CPD Committee is to administer the CPD Program at ACEM including providing advice to staff and Fellows, monitoring progress and compliance and corresponding with regulatory bodies such as MCNZ and AHPRA
In order to formalise and expand her skills, Maddi has completed a Graduate Certificate in Organisational Coaching with Swinburne University. She is accredited to use the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and is trained to apply it in areas such as leadership development and team building. She is also a accredited to use the Hogan Assessments (HPI, HDS and MVPI) to explore people’s personality, potential derailers, and their values and motivators. She is a member of the International Coach Federation.
After a long period in the inner city, Maddi now lives in the foothills of Mt Dandenong, east of Melbourne, Australia with her husband and 3 boys. Their property is home to chickens, native birds and ducks and the occasional kangaroo.
